Synchronize Passwords

Synchronize passwords are optional for UNIX users and mandatory for Windows and Macintosh users. Listed below are some details to keep in mind when working with Synchronize passwords.

  • Windows and Macintosh users accessing their calendars for the first time will be prompted to enter a new Synchronize password.

  • If a user attempts, from a Windows or Macintosh client, to access his or her calendar which had been previously accessed from a UNIX client (and no Synchronize password was ever set), then either the user must first set a Synchronize password from a UNIX client, or you must reset the user’s Synchronize password (see below) before the user will be able to access his or her calendar.

  • A user (any platform) is not allowed to log in to a UNIX user’s Synchronize calendar if that UNIX user has not set a Synchronize password. Only that UNIX user (or anyone who can log in to that user’s UNIX account) can access his or her calendar.

In some cases, it may be necessary to reset a password if, for example, a user forgets his or her password. To reset a password, the user’s password entry must be deleted from the db/database/userinfo file. There may be more than one line corresponding to the same user in this file. Only the line containing the encrypted password entry should be deleted. The entire line must be deleted.
